A conversation with Maria Cecilia Flores-Oebanda, freedom fighter and internationally renowned social entrepreneur on the topic of
“Modern-Day Slavery: Fighting Human Trafficking in the Philippines and Beyond”
Human trafficking is a high profit, low risk criminal industry. With her organization Visayan Forum, Cecilia has rescued and transformed the lives of thousands of victims and systematically changed the awareness and legal
prosecution of human trafficking in the Philippines.
The evening offers insights into Cecilia’s mission and the personality of a real Responsible Leader who, since her early fight against the Marcos regime, has dedicated her life towards creating a better society. We will also hear about her thoughts on how the experiences in the Global South can help us tackle modern slavery in our
societies. While forced labor, trafficking, and exploitation have always been a reality in Europe, the problem has been exacerbated by the recent influx of migrants and refugees.
