GreenCycle Academy 2017 – A Sustainable Innovation Workshop

The GreenCycle Academy, hosted by Climate-KIC, is a 3-day workshop based on an open innovation approach that brings together creative students from all backgrounds. During this event, you will learn and apply various methods for idea generation and design thinking tools to find first solutions for the specific challenges. Throughout all sessions, you will be supported by a team of experts and mentors from GreenCycle and an additional pair of coaches. GreenCycle is the service provider for waste disposal and energy management of Kaufland and Lidl.

What are the challenges in 2017?

1. How would you design a business in a sustainable society?

You will develop a holistic concept for a recycling company. We will focus on the areas of mobility, waste management, water and energy.

2. How would you design global waste streams for a sustainable future?

You are free to select between the following two areas:

a) How can landfilling and marine littering be avoided on a long-term basis?

b) How can plastic recycling be designed in a more efficient way and along the value chain?

Who can participate?

Whether you are a social scientist, an engineer or a designer – students of all study backgrounds are invited to join!

What is the timeline?

The GCA will kick-off Friday afternoon (22 Sept) with an introduction to the two challenges. Each participant is free to choose one of them before the actual team formation process begins, which is led by two experienced coaches. During the whole weekend, there will be experts and coaches by your side who will support you. They will provide you with additional input from the areas of design thinking, co-creation, validation, business modelling and lean start-up. You and your team will pitch your idea on Sunday afternoon in front of an expert jury.

Friday, 22 Sept., 16 – 21:00

Saturday, 23 Sept., 9 – 19.30

Sunday, 24 Sept., 9 – 17:00

Prizes

Winning teams are invited to the company’s headquarters in Neckarsulm (16/17 October), where they will have the opportunity to pitch and refine their idea. The final winner will receive a tailor-made full-day coaching session!
