In Zusammenarbeit mit der Freien ungarischen Botschaft (FUB) und dem Mozarteum veranstaltet das Berliner Ensemble am 19. Januar um 19.00 Uhr vor dem Hintergrund der Proteste in Ungarn ein Online-Podiumsgespräch über künstlerische und akademische Freiheit.
Es diskutieren Ildikó Enyedi (ehemalige Dozentin der SZFE, Regisseurin), Oliver Reese (Intendant des Berliner Ensembles), Kornél Mundruczó (Regisseur), Hanna Milovits (Stundentin der Theater- und Filmuniversität Budapest), Christopher Lepschy (Senatsvorsitzender des Mozarteums) und Éva Tőkei (Aktivistin der Freien ungarischen Botschaft). Das Gespräch moderiert Andrea Thilo.
Seit Anfang September 2020 demonstrieren in Budapest Studierende und Lehrkräfte gegen die Übertragung der Leitungspositionen der Theater- und Filmuniversität (SZFE) an eine regierungsnahe Stiftung. Sie sehen die Autonomie ihrer Universität durch das undemokratische Verfahren der Entscheidungsträger weitestgehend gefährdet und fürchten um die künstlerische Freiheit im Schatten einer sich immer weiter ausbauenden kulturellen Hegemonie. Die Proteste sorgen seit Monaten für weltweite Aufmerksamkeit: Wie ist es dazu gekommen? Warum ist die Umstrukturierung einer kleinen Budapester Universität plötzlich so bedeutend, dass sich unzählige Menschen, Theatermacher*innen, Intellektuelle und Privatpersonen von Berlin bis New York solidarisch mit den Studierenden zeigen? Was kann internationale Solidarität? Was sind die Möglichkeiten des Widerstandes in Zeiten der Pandemie? Welche gesellschaftliche Verantwortung trägt die Kunst? Eine online Podiumsdiskussion in englischer Sprache über künstlerische und akademische Freiheit.

In cooperation with the Free Hungarian Embassy (FUB) and the Mozarteum and in view of the protests occurring in Hungary, Berliner Ensemble will host an online panel discussion about artistic and academic freedom on 19th January at 7 pm. The discussion will feature Ildikó Enyedi (former lecturer at SZFE, University of Theatre and Film Arts Budapest), Oliver Reese (artistic director of the Berliner Ensemble), Kornél Mundruczó (director), Hanna Milovits (student of the SZFE), Christopher Lepschy (senate chairman of the Mozarteum) and Éva Tőkei (activist of the Free Hungarian Embassy, FUB).
Since early September 2020, lecturers and students in Budapest have been demonstrating against the transferral of executive positions at the University of Theatre and Film Arts (SZFE) to a pro-government foundation. They see their university’s autonomy largely imperilled by the undemocratic proceedings of political decision-makers and fear for artistic liberties in the face of increasing cultural hegemony. Their protests have been gaining worldwide attention: How did this happen? Why has the restructuring process of a small university in Budapest become so significant that countless people – theatre makers, intellectuals and the general public – from Berlin to New York have demonstrated their solidarity with the students? What can international solidarity achieve? What are the options of resistance in times of a pandemic? And what are the social responsibilities of art? An online podium discussion in English about artistic and academic freedom.
