Companies and individuals are coming together in new ways to harness business and business skills to fight poverty in Africa and across the developing world. Business Action for Africa (www.businessactionforafrica.org), created following the Commission for Africa report in 2005, brings together around 200 businesses, business organisations and other development partners to work collectively on advocacy, on-the-ground programmes and knowledge sharing. A new network, created by the same team – Business Fights Poverty (www.businessfightspoverty.org) – focuses on bringing together and connecting individual professionals from around the world. According to Founder, Zahid Torres-Rahman, „With close to 1,000 professionals from across business, government and civil society, Business Fights Poverty has the exciting potential to provide a focal point for the widespread, though dispersed, interest in the contribution that business can make to poverty reduction“.
