East Asia Research Associate at UL Responsible Sourcing (Hong Kong, China)

UL-RS has 30 offices worldwide dedicated to carrying out supply chain assessments that focus on child labor, forced labor, wage and hour issues, safety, and environmental concerns in international manufacturing and agricultural supply chains. UL-RS’s Research and Development (R&D) Department holds a dynamic and pivotal role, developing tools and services on best practices in responsible sourcing and labor standards in the supply chain.

The Research Associate will primarily be responsible for monitoring changes in national and provincial level regulations within the East region, including , , and Hong Kong (excluding ). Secondary responsibilities will include management of and/or participation in labor standards projects and research, following and identifying industry trends through strategically-focused research- and relationship-building in the region, participation in local networking events, conferences, and trainings on law, CSR, responsible sourcing, and other related topics.

In addition, the Research Associate will be called upon to assist the R&D Department in completing general R&D department duties, including:

  • processing labor standards data for use in client program benchmarking
  • conducting special research projects as needed
  • specializing in regional labor standards issues and developing tools to address these issues via brand initiatives or with local governments
  • researching and publishing the weekly corporate social responsibility newsletter

The Research Associate will report to the Global Research Manager and, if appropriate, to the Regional or Country Manager.

Education/Skills/Abilities Required:

  • Superior written and oral fluency in Cantonese and English required
  • Proficiency in a secondary language preferred (including Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, etc)
  • Advanced skills in internet research and standard skills in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Four year college degree; additional post-graduate degree preferred
  • Knowledge of labor laws, international labor standards and human rights issues preferred
  • Minimum two years work experience in CSR-related field preferred
  • Ability to adapt to challenging work environment in a constantly changing industry
  • Aptitude and disposition amenable to research
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail
  • Self starter, problem solver, and hard worker
  • Creative and innovative thinking
  • Ability to operate in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information

Salary: Negotiable based on related experience and skills
