We are currently seeking an individual in the role of: Sustainability Programs Officer, Temporary 1-Year Term (Maternity Leave Coverage)
Reporting to the Vice President, Sustainability, the Sustainability Programs Officer provides leadership for Teck’s voluntary commitments, sustainability reporting and external assurance. The position supervises the Sustainability Programs Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
Sustainability Report
Manage the development, internal approvals, publication and distribution of Teck’s printed and online Sustainability Reports
Manage external assurance of Teck’s sustainability report, including the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) Assurance framework and the review panel process
Develop, implement and manage the workplan
Lead the materiality analysis
Coordinate the implementation of the report improvement plan and review panel’s recommendations
Coordinate communications plan for the report (distribution, updating COP, award entries, etc.)
Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) Initiative Leader
Act as Teck representative to Mining Association of Canada (MAC) for the TSM program
Participate in TSM meeting and conference calls
Lead the Teck TSM Coordinators working group
Meet the company verification and reporting requirements (annual self-assessments, external verification, company profile, CEO letter)
Continue to facilitate implementation of the TSM Improvement Plan
Coordinate the completion of the annual Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) questionnaire and response to Sustainability analyst reports/questionnaires such as Vigeo and Jantzi/Sustainalytics
Other Associations
Act as Teck contact for United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) LEAD, Network for Business Sustainability Leadership Council, other sustainability-related associations.
Qualifications:
More than 5 years of relevant professional work experience.
Degree in sciences, social sciences, sustainability, social policy or other related fields and advanced degree (e.g. Masters) is an advantage.
Knowledge of international sustainability initiatives, voluntary reporting guidelines and best practices in sustainability reporting
Familiarity with the extractives sector and sustainability related topics.
Skilled written and verbal communicator; able to present complex concepts clearly
Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
Results-oriented with excellent organizational, planning and decision making skills.
Knowledge and experience of international principles and best practice related to communities and social responsibility e.g. International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), UN Global Compact, UN Millennium Development Goals, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
Computer literacy in Microsoft programs and other IT programs
Experience in auditing/measuring sustainability performance an asset
