(New York) – Today, the Global Compact Board convened at UN Headquarters for for its third meeting in 2010. Topics covered included the 2011 – 2013 Global Compact strategy, integrity measures and the Foundation for the Global Compact.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, as the Board’s chair, addressed the meeting, stressing that the Global Compact is well positioned to mobilize tangible support from the private sector in support of UN goals.
Addressing the luncheon, the Secretary-General highlighted upcoming priority areas for the Global Compact, such as next year’s 4th United Nations Summit on the Least Developed Countries and the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) in 2012. He urged businesses to guide Governments on what they can do to maximize private sector contributions to the UN agenda.
