(Kampala) – Over 200 leaders from business, civil society and government convened at the African Private Sector Forum on 22-23 July on the theme “Creating New Business Opportunities in the Aftermath of the Global Economic and Financial Crisis”. Held on the margins of the 15th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government, the Forum was co-organized by the African Union Commission, the International Trade Centre, UN Global Compact, African Export-Import Bank, the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Investment Authority.

The two-day Forum concluded with agreement on the “African Private Sector Forum Declaration” which outlines priority actions for implementation by the private sector, governments, the Regional Economic Communities and the African Union with the objective of enhancing the competitiveness of African industries and improving the continent’s share of global trade and investment flows.

On 25 July, the Declaration was presented to Heads of State and Government during the official lunch of the African Union Summit, which was co-sponsored by the UN Global Compact.

The Declaration calls for the next African Private Sector Forum to be held in 2011.
