(New York) – The inaugural issue of the Global Compact International Yearbook, highlighting key sustainability issues on the international agenda and showcasing a wide array of corporate practices, has just been published. The publication was developed and produced by German publishing house Macondo Media Group, a Global Compact participant since 2002, with support from the Global Compact Office.

Featuring a foreword by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and a number of essays by international experts and thought leaders, the Yearbook puts a spotlight on critical issues ranging from climate change to water sustainability and the financial crisis, and their relevance to global business. Authors of the 2009 edition include John Elkington, Filiz Demirayak, Lord Anthony Giddens, Robert O. Keohane, Georg Kell, David Nabarro, Andreas Suchanek, and Pasquale Steduto.

A total of 32 businesses representing a wide range of sectors and regions contributed practice examples, showcasing the application of the Global Compact’s ten principles in business strategy, daily operations and through partnership projects. The examples were reviewed by an editorial advisory board including UN and civil society representatives.

The Global Compact International Yearbook is a non-commercial project. Proceeds from the sale of the publication benefit the Foundation for the Global Compact.
