The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is an international non-profit organization whose vision is to make reporting on economic, environmental, and social performance by all organizations as mainstream as financial reporting. The GRI seeks to achieve this by developing, continually improving, and building capacity around the use of its Sustainability Reporting Framework: the core of which being the Reporting Guidelines.

The GRI’s Guidelines are emerging as the world’s most widely used standard for sustainability reporting, and over 1000 organizations around the world have declared their use of them as the basis for reporting.

To ensure that the GRI Framework is globally relevant and applicable across different constituencies, the GRI works closely with an extensive and active multi-stakeholder network. This includes many hundred stakeholders in GRI’s formal governance bodies (Board of Directors, Stakeholder Council, Technical Advisory Committee, Organizational Stakeholders, and Secretariat), and many thousand – from diverse constituencies across all corners of the globe – contributing to the Framework’s development, continuous improvement, and implementation.

Working with the GRI means joining the world’s premier network of people and organizations working to advance sustainability, transparency and accountability through sustainability reporting.

Position summary

The post holder will further develop, and manage the implementation of GRI’s relations with Organizational Stakeholders in different countries or regions. The goal is to develop and maintain an innovative membership-type program for GRI that offers ways for Organizational Stakeholders from various constituencies to deepen their involvement in GRI and that strengthens these organizations’ financial and non-financial support for GRI. The post holder will also manage the recruitment of Organisational Stakeholders (OS) and maintain the retention of Organizational Stakeholders’ support, to optimise their practical support for GRI’s mission as well as their governance role in GRI and their financial support of the organization.

Manages the Organizational Stakeholder Network (Administrative) Officer.

Job purpose

The post holder is responsible for the development strategy and the recruitment and retention of Organizational Stakeholders and also for ensuring the effective management and administration of relations with Organizational Stakeholders. The post holder will seek opportunities to build the OS membership, visibility of GRI, and the involvement of OS in GRI projects at a national level through strategies such as collaboration with OS, organizing local events, working with ad hoc supporters, etc. These approaches will be
undertaken in coordination with the Learning Services and SuRF departments and aim to ensure maximum impact for the whole of GRI.

Responsibilities

1. To develop and maintain an innovative membership-type program
2. To develop and implement a strategy to grow the recruitment and maintain the retention of Organizational Stakeholders
3. To pro-actively recruit new Organizational Stakeholders (achieving GRI’s annual targets)
4. To ensure ongoing effective communication with Organizational Stakeholders
5. To maintain an effective relationship management system and administration in support of the Organizational Stakeholder program
6. To represent the GRI in inter-institutional relations and in public speaking engagements as relevant
7. In coordination with the GRI’s Conference and Events Manager promote, organize and support GRI-focused extension activities in countries and regions with a high, or emerging, potential for growing use of the GRI Guidelines
8. In coordination with the Senior Manager Network Relations promote the creation of national sustainability reporting networks and cultivate them.

Key competencies/requirements

1. Proven experience in developing and managing a membership-type program
2. Proven track record in acquisition of high value memberships in the private and public sector and/or proven ability in fundraising as well as relevant marketing and sales experience
3. A strong ability to develop and maintain effective customer relations and to manage/develop a database CRM system
4. A good communicator, highly persuasive and an ability to inspire
5. Proven people – and project management skills
6. Excellent inter-personal skills, and an ability to represent GRI at all levels and in different cultural settings
7. Fluency in English, with an ability in other world languages as an advantage
8. Willingness to travel internationally
9. An interest in and awareness of global sustainability issues
10. Awareness and knowledge of global CSR and sustainability-related initiatives and standards would be an advantage
11. Knowledge of sustainability reporting in different parts of the world would be an advantage.
