1st International Sustainability Conference in Nürnberg: Working towards a sustainable future

Monday, January 26th, 2009

  • Over 60 top international speakers
  • Holistic strategies and solutions for a “Global Green New Deal”

The 1st International Conference on Sustainable Production, Trade, Consumption and Lifestyle takes place in CongressCenter Ost of NürnbergMesse from 17-18 February 2009, before the world-leading exhibition BioFach. It offers a high-level forum for industry, politics, non-governmental organizations and consumers and will explore all major aspects of sustainability and CSR in depth with a focus on verifiability.

“UNO Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and UNEP Director Achim Steiner have called for a global Green New Deal based on holistic strategies and solutions. The sustainability conference will reflect the spirit of this appropriate proposal,” promises conference coordinator Udo Censkowsky.
The conference tackles the following questions: To what degree and how can current global problems be resolved by sustainability strategies and policies and their implementation? Where and how can the line be drawn between greenwashing and sound sustainability? What verification tools are available or necessary? Do we need alternative business models focussing on more than profit maximization?

The programme features over 60 high-ranking international speakers, including Klaus Töpfer, former Director of the United Nations Environment Programme UNEP, Renate Künast, parliamentary party leader of the German Green Party, Alexander Müller, Assistant Director-General of the UN Food & Agriculture Organization FAO, and former EU Commissioner for Agriculture Franz Fischler. Hans Reitz, Creative Advisor of Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, will participate as speaker at the gala dinner and enrich the conference with his speech on the dynamic of the new movement of social enterprises. Further speakers come from various companies such as Rewe, KPMG, Puma, LiDL, Swiss COOP and Telekom.

“This is a remarkable programme and a solid fundament for inspiration, motivation, learning and working towards a sustainable future,” emphasizes programme coordinator Bernward Geier.
