Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Business in Society
(Department of Social Sciences)
ESADE Business School seeks to appoint a faculty member at assistant professor level with a strong background in Business in Society. The position of full-time professor in the Department of Social Sciences will be appointed in September 2008. The successful candidate will contribute to both theoretical and applied aspects of the department’s research and will have an active research agenda. The applicant is expected to play an active role in the Executive Education courses, our graduate courses (MBA & Ph.D. programs) and undergraduate courses (Bachelor in Business Administration).
The candidate should have a Ph.D. or expected to have it by the end of 2008 in the area, and possess outstanding research and teaching qualifications. Possible areas of research and teaching are topics such as Social Philosophy, Sociology, Business Ethics, Leadership and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The Department of Social Sciences at ESADE concentrates on issues related to the social, political, and cultural environments in business, and the responsibilities related to the social changes connected to globalization. In addition to traditional approaches regarding study of business ethics or corporate social responsibility (CSR), the Social Sciences Department atypically links these reflections with the analyses of social transformations within the disciplines of philosophy, ethics, economy, sociology, political science, humanities, etc.
This integrative drive can be appreciated, for example, in the activities of the Institute for Social Innovation (IIS) linked to the Department; or, in its collaboration with the ‘LeadershipS and Democratic Government’ chair, recently offered by ESADE.
Thus, the Department of Social Sciences attempts to combine training, research and application, by promoting analysis of the current reality; through the follow up of organizations and the guidelines that define their responsibilities; and through values based on four core aspects: the person, the company, society and the world.
ESADE is a member of the Universitat Ramon Llull and has facilities in Madrid and Barcelona. It runs a wide range of business courses at degree and postgraduate levels in Spanish and English in Europe and Latin America. ESADE has co-operation agreements with many top universities around the globe.
ESADE has been involved in an effort to further internationalize its faculty as demonstrated by recent international hiring and recruitment plans for the years to come. In addition ESADE has made a strong commitment to intensifying its research activity. This is reflected in its strong commitment to strengthening its Department of Social Sciences with internationally-recognized
research-oriented faculty in the next few years.
The salary for this position will be competitive. On top of the gross salary, assistance will be given towards the cost of relocation. Speaking Spanish or Catalan is not a requirement. For non Spanish or Catalan speaking candidates support in learning Spanish or Catalan will be provided by ESADE Language School.
