The CSCP (UNEP/Wuppertal Institute Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production) together with the German Society for Technical Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit - GTZ) and the Wuppertal Institute have jointly published a compendium of policy instruments for resource efficiency.
To improve resource efficiency and promote sustainable consumption and production, governments need to set realistic long-term policy objectives and targets and apply a mix of policy instruments. The compendium profiles a wide variety of instruments available to governments to build a sound policy framework that supports resource efficiency across production and consumption systems.
The compendium introduces a broad range of policy instruments that have been demonstrated as successful in increasing resource efficiency and promoting sustainable consumption and production patterns in a number of jurisdictions. In addition to traditional regulatory or ‘command and control’ approaches the compendium profiles a much wider array of policy tools including economic, information, cooperation and educational instruments.
The compendium is now available on the CSCP website in its entirety in an informative chapter-by-chapter fact sheet format.
