Business Ethics: A European Review. Corporate Social Responsibility and SMEs, edited by Mette Morsing & Francesco Perrini.
Due date: January 31, 2007
For a number of years CSR research has been dominated by a focus on MNCs resulting in severe gap in our knowledge about the particular organisational field and the challenges that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are exposed to. Emerging research has pointed out that it is still unclear to what extent SMEs can build on the knowledge and experiences of large multinational companies in their CR engagement.
In this special issue we want to explore to what extent SMEs need to develop their own methods and logics to integrate CR and to what extent they are able to adopt MNCs methods of sustainability reports, stakeholder partnership programs and international network participation in the area. This also implies that we ask the “why” questions to bring understanding of SME motives, interests and agendas for a CSR engagement. Such understanding precedes the development of relevant CSR policies, programs and tools for SMEs. While CR is becoming a widespread institutionalised practice in MNCs, it still remains an unfamiliar and strange concept in most SME practices today. We encourage theoretical as well as empirical papers. Potential topics for the special issue include but are not limited to:
SMEs, CSR and competitiveness
SMEs, CSR and innovation
SMEs, CSR, leadership and ownership
SMEs, CSR and supply chain
SMEs, CSR and employees
SMEs, CSR and communication
Political agendas for CSR in SMEs
