Coca-Cola HBC, provider of non-alcoholic beverages in 28 countries, has published its Social Responsibility Report (CSR) for 2005.

The Report, demonstrating progress achieved in embedding corporate responsibility, has been prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability Reporting Guidelines 2002.

Among key initiatives, the Report details the signing of a partnership with The Coca-Cola Company and the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) to conduct continuing water preservation measures, as well as the commissioning in Hungary of a power plant with no ozone depleting qualities, very low direct greenhouse impact, while offering optimal energy-efficient refrigeration.

In addition to reporting on implementation of policies on corporate governance and ethical behaviour since the Company was formed in 2000, the Report provides specific information about actions taken in four focus areas. Some highlights:

The Marketplace:
Increased choice and variety of beverages; achieved target of ISO 9001 certification in 84% of bottling operations; and implemented a revised code of practice on responsible sales and marketing in schools.

The Workplace:
Established Safety Committees in all plants; achieved OHSAS 18001 certification in 9 plants; extended HIV/AIDS programmes and implemented anti-Malaria efforts for employees and families in Nigeria; and ensured implementation of Human Rights and Equality policies throughout operations.

The Environment:
Improved plant water use efficiency by 4%, energy 9%, solid waste recycling 5%; built 3 wastewater treatment units; and achieved ISO 14001 certification in 54 of 78 bottling plants.

The Community:
Launched pilot water conservation scheme for Nigeria; engaged in environmental protection and awareness efforts in all countries; and launched and supported active-lifestyle activities in all countries.
