Job announcement: professorship in business ethics at Belk College of Business and University of North Carolina

The Belk College of Business, the Department of Philosophy, and the Center for Professional and Applied Ethics of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invite applications for the Jule and Marguerite Surtman Distinguished Professorship in Business Ethics, beginning August 2007.

The Surtman Professor will have a joint appointment in the Belk College (tenure home) and the Philosophy Department in the College of Arts and Sciences, and will be a Senior Associate of the Ethics Center.

Qualifications for this joint appointment include a Ph.D. in Philosophy, Management, Business Administration, or a related field, and a distinguished research record in business ethics that warrants appointment to an endowed professorship. The ideal candidate will provide leadership in business ethics at UNC Charlotte by enhancing or creating relationships with the business community and by developing symposia, curricula, and research programs for students and professionals. The Surtman Professor will teach three courses a year in business and philosophy.

UNC Charlotte is a rapidly growing research intensive, doctoral-level state university located in the second largest financial center in the U.S., with over 20,000 students and 800 full-time faculty members. Accredited by AACSB International, the Belk College of Business offers undergraduate programs ranging from entrepreneurship to management information systems (2500 students), and specialized graduate degrees in accounting, economics, and mathematical finance (500 students). The Belk College offers an M.B.A. and, starting August 2006, a Ph.D. The Department of Philosophy has 14 full-time faculty members, including the Distinguished Professor in Health Care Ethics (Dr. Rosemarie Tong). The Department offers a Graduate Certificate in Applied Ethics and, starting August 2006, an M.A. in Ethics and Applied Philosophy. The Center for Professional and Applied Ethics hosts the annual Barnhardt Seminar on Ethics and the World of Business.
