ABB publishes 2005 Sustainability Report - ReportAlert.info!

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

ABB, the global power and automation technology group, has just published its 2005 Sustainability Report which features articles about the company’s triple bottom line impact around the world, as well as in-depth performance results based on the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) reporting guidelines.

The 52-page report, backed by an online version available on the group’s sustainability web site (www.abb.com/sustainability) highlights some of the opportunities and challenges the company faces - from the technologies that support renewable sources of energy through to the human rights initiatives in which it is involved.

With a foreword on corporate responsibility by Chief Executive Fred Kindle, articles highlight how ABB seeks to support and promote economic development, environmental stewardship and social progress.

Articles include:
- How advanced ABB technologies promote wind power and integrate it into the power grid
- How ABB instruments are enabling scientists to measure greenhouse gases from space
- How high-efficiency motors and drives save energy and cut costs
- A series of snapshots on how ABB’s social policies are improving people’s lives from Brazil to Poland and India

Human rights dilemmas when doing business are examined in detail. Read about how ABB has faced up to criticism of its supplies to one conflict-ravaged African nation and the company’s attempts to ensure it follows a human-rights aware approach in its operations.

The second part of the report is devoted to in-depth and independently-verified performance reporting, according to the GRI indicators. The company sets out its policies and details its environmental and social performance as well as its goals for the coming year.

Last but not least, tribute is paid to sometimes unsung heroes - the employees who in all corners of the world have been involved in small-scale projects which better the lives of people in the communities where ABB operates.
