This, Aviva’s 5th CSR report - having previously produced three Environment reports - covers all Aviva businesses worldwide and highlights performance and progress achieved during 2005.
Some notable internal developments over the past year include:
- 11% reduction in global CO2 emissions
- 61% of global waste now being recycled
An increase in the use of zero emission electricity
Over 24,000 hours volunteered across the group
An increase in SRI funds under management to over £800 million
Numerous examples of how CSR has been further integrated into products and services around the group.
Creation of a new CSR Committee of the Aviva Board
The group reports on how it responds to three key CSR issues, namely climate change, managing structural change and customer care.
In addition, Aviva highlights challenges for 2006, which include:
Climate change - considering what further steps Aviva could and should take in respect of climate change
Carbon balancing - conduct research into rendering Aviva’s activities, broadly travel and business management, carbon neutral
Examination of responsibility and disaster response - from a groupwide perspective
Continued internationalisation of the CSR programme
