Thursday, April 13th, 2006

Catalyst Paper has published “Determined to Make a Difference”, its 2005 accountability report. The report can be downloaded at www.catalystpaper.com

For Catalyst, a leading North American producer of mechanical printing papers, sustainability is part of everyday business - being honest and forthright, treating people with dignity and respect and being a responsible neighbour in operating communities.

The 2005 report, published as a companion to the company’s annual report, quantifies Catalyst’s progress toward its corporate social responsibility vision and goals and presents key measures of its social, economic and environmental performance.

Some highlights of Catalyst’s 2005 performance:

  • Joined the WWF’s Climate Savers program, pledging to achieve a sustained 70% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions over 1990 levels by 2010
  • Exceeded its Climate Savers goal, reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 71% below their 1990 level
  • Recorded its safest year ever, with one mill named the safest in Canada for its category
  • Increased diversity for board of directors and executive
  • Achieved performance improvements of CAD$84 million, 5% over target
  • Awarded for quality and service by key customers, including Verizon Information Services, Vertis, AT&T Yellow Pages and Dow Jones
  • To order a hard copy of the report or to provide feedback about Catalyst’s reporting, e-mail corporate.affairs@catalystpaper.com

Catalyst, headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, produces a variety of lightweight mechanical paper grades, including specialty papers for magazines, catalogues and retail inserts, directory paper and newsprint. The company also produces market pulp and owns Western Canada’s largest paper recycling facility. With five mills employing 3,800 people at sites within a 160 kilometre radius on the south coast of British Columbia, Catalyst has a combined annual capacity of 2.5 million tonnes of product. Catalyst Paper Corporation common shares trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol CTL.
