November 1-5, 2006 at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago, Illinois
Crossroads: a place where different cultures meet, a place where we see new opportunities, a place where we make connections, a crucial point.
The crossroads is an enduring symbol of meetings, departures, choices, connections and decisions. When we reach a crossroads in our individual or organizational lives, we look back to assess our progress, we look around to study our options and find fellow travelers, and we look ahead for inspiration, hope and new directions. This year’s ILA conference will be held in Chicago, a geographic, intellectual, ethnic, commercial, cultural and spiritual crossroads.
You are invited to send a proposal for a conference presentation. The ILA seeks submissions that represent the best contemporary thinking about leadership from a diverse range of scholars, practitioners, educators, leadership program directors, consultants and students. Proposal formats include: paper presentations, panel discussions, workshops, conversations with leadership authors, roundtables and posters. While we encourage the submission of all current work on leadership, extra attention will be given to those submissions that relate to the theme, Leadership at the Crossroads.
CALL FOR PROPOSALS:
Submission deadline: March 31, 2006

The International Leadership Association is the global network or crossroads - for people who study, teach and practice leadership. The association’s mission is to promote a deeper understanding of leadership knowledge and practice for the greater good of individuals and communities worldwide. In order to focus on specific needs of various constituents, the ILA is organized into five Global Learning Communities: Applied Leadership, Business Leadership, Leadership Education, Public Service Leadership, and Leadership Scholarship. In addition, the ILA focuses on the intersections between the GLCs and other diverse interests, fields, sectors, methods, and roles. Over 700people are expected to attend the conference; over 100 concurrent sessions will be held.
Of particular interest are proposals that offer innovative information, provocative research or useful skills to one or more ILA GLC, while involving presenters from multiple fields, organizations, disciplines,
locations or sectors. The GLCs coordinate a peer-review process in early April to vet proposals; acceptances will be sent in late May. More details about ILA, the GLCs and their sub-themes, deadlines, submission guidelines,
the online submission form, and other important information may be found at: www.ila-net.org/Conferences/cfp.htm.

Here are some questions to stimulate, but in no way restrict, your thinking as you develop your proposal. Please consider them from your own perspective, whether a leadership scholar, educator, program director, business or community leader, grantmaker, student, leadership consultant/coach.
Have we reached a plateau in leadership development and education and if so, what are our options?
What new knowledge is available to support leadership processes?
What are the new directions in leadership scholarship?
Do our current situations require new approaches and what can be learned from past experiences?
How can leadership challenges be transformed into opportunities?
Can our knowledge or experience be generalized to develop global directions?
