Summer School at London School of Economics (LSE): 3 July - 11 August 2006

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

The internationally renowned Summer School offers short courses taught by leading LSE faculty. The extensive range of courses covers the breadth of the social science expertise available at the LSE. Courses range from traditional core Economics and Finance subjects to those concerned with contemporary politics and management practice. Whichever course you choose will provide you with a valuable contribution to your chosen field, whether it be studying for a degree or in your professional career.

The programme is based on regular undergraduate courses taught at LSE and therefore you will find the courses academically challenging and intellectually stimulating.

You will find that the opportunity offered by Summer School extends further than world-class teaching. The programme is a learning experience made unique by a truly diverse mix of participants drawn from over 80 countries and with an eclectic range of backgrounds. Whilst many participants are current graduate or undergraduate students, the programme attracts significant professional representation. We regularly host representatives from the United Nations, European Union, and leading international banks.

Lecturers are experts in their chosen fields and committed to providing the very best traditional rigour with contemporary relevance. Our faculty are actively involved in academic research and many act as advisers and consultants to companies and Government bodies. Most of our teaching is located in our award winning building, Clement House.

All Summer School participants are considered part of the wider LSE community and are afforded the same rights and privileges as regular students, so you will quickly feel integrated into the heart of the School. There is an organised social programme affording opportunity to meet and relax with your course teachers and fellow participants. The atmosphere around campus is convivial and interactive, you may develop friendships which will last well beyond the programme.

The programme was established in 1989 and has expanded extensively with more than 2,500 participants in 2005.

LSE

The LSE is the leading social science institution in the world. The School’s reputation as a global leader has been built up over the hundred years since it was founded.

Beatrice and Sidney Webb established the LSE in 1895 to contribute to the improvement of society by promoting the impartial study of its problems, and the training of those who were to translate policy into action. From the beginning the School was open equally to women and men, and set out to cater for students from all over the world.

We remain faithful to our tradition. Experts at the School work closely with political leaders, business corporations and public sector officials. 6 former members of staff are Nobel Prize winners and many leaders of national governments and over 30 current Members of the British Parliament are LSE alumni.

The LSE has built its reputation on its atmosphere of vigorous intellectual argument and informed debate. We are a laboratory where ideas from all perspectives are developed, tested, criticised and disseminated to the wider world. LSE Departments consistently receive the highest possible marks for their teaching and research, confirming our commitment to academic excellence.

The LSE Summer School offers an opportunity for you to share this tradition of excellence with LSE faculty. Our courses in Accounting & Finance, Economics, English, International Studies, Law and Management will give you an insight into leading-edge thinking in each discipline. We look forward to welcoming you to the School.
