September 21 - 23, 2006 in Vienna, Austria
The 19th [1] EBEN Annual Conference in 2006 is organized by the [2] Östereichisches Netzwerk Wirtschaftsethik (EBEN-Austria, oenwe).
Call for papers
The importance and role of both global institutions and global corporations has grown constantly in recent years. With omnipresent global markets and an active global stakeholder society there is increasing awareness and transparancy regarding the moral significance of global organisations - public and private. EBEN’s thematic focus for its 2006 annual conference in Vienna is twofold: special emphasis will be put on ethical issues in global institutions, such as the UN, Worldbank, etc. Another focus will be on global corporations, especially their responsibilities in a global society, and novel ways to further the common good, e.g. through cross-sector collaboration and active global citizenship.
Topics to be considered include, but are not limited to, the following:
Contributions are invited as full paper or, alternatively, as 2-page abstracts in Word format as e-mail attachment until April 30, 2006 to the EBEN secretariat: [3] Ann.VanEspen@econ.kuleuven.be
Information on acceptance of papers will be given by May 31st, 2006. Contributions of both academics and practitioners are encouraged. Please note that only submitted full papers are eligible for consideration for the special issue of [4] The Journal of Business Ethics! If you want your paper to be considered please note “JBE” on the cover page. Since papers will be submitted to a peer review process, please make sure that it contains a cover page with all relevant information (title, authors, contact details, etc.) and that no author identifying information is included from page 2 onwards. Start with the title, include a short abstract of 100-200 words and use TimesRoman font, 12 pt, double-spaced and follow the JBE style guide for your references (e.g., Author, 1st and 2nd Author: 2006, ‘My EBEN paper’, in The Journal of Business Ethics 99(1), 21-32.)
Teaching track papers are also encouraged and selected papers will be recommended for publication in the Journal of Business Ethics Education; and as usual, EBEN members are free to submit a paper on any topic in business ethics and its related disciplines. Paper presenters will be entitled to a reduced conference fee.
A selected conference paper will receive the first EBEN Best Paper Award.
The conference will take place at the Federation of Austrian Industry, Schwarzenbergplatz, in the heart of Vienna at a venue of historic significance. The Austrian state treaty was signed here in 1955. Many of the hotels, as well as major attractions, are in walking distance. Vienna is in easy reach from all major airports in Europe and abroad. Late September is also a preferred travel time to go to the city. Further details on keynote speakers, program and information re: booking and registration can be obtained soon at [5] www.eben2006.org.
Please register early as this year’s conference in beautiful Vienna is likely to sell out.
The conference will be preceded by the annual doctoral workshop, September 20, at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. It will be hosted by Prof. Herwig Friesinger, General Secretary of the Academy, and organized by Prof. Guido Palazzo and Dr. Tobias Gössling. Interested students are encouraged to apply soon for one of the limited slots but no later than the general deadline on April 30, 2006, by sending an abstract of their thesis; including name, affiliation and the intended focus of their presentation to [6] guido.palazzo@unil.ch.
