Trust, Reciprocity and Social Capital
The 2006 Ratio Colloquium for Young Social Scientists

Stockholm, August 25-26, 2006

The aim of this conference is to bring together research and researchers in different fields dealing with trust, reciprocity and social capital. In this quickly growing area of research, there is big need for interdisciplinary communication. We therefore invite young scholars, including graduate students, in political science, economics, economic history, sociology, law, psychology, business administration and related disciplines to submit proposals for a two-day colloquium/workshop to be held in Stockholm. In addition to ordinary sessions, there will be two plenary sessions and a dinner. The two plenary speaker are Professor Bo Rothstein from the University of Gothenburg and Dr. Benedikt Herrmann from the University of Nottingham.

Papers dealing with the following areas are particularly welcome:

The measurement of trust and social capital.
The determinants of trust and social capital.
Consequences of trust, reciprocity and social capital.
The evolution of cooperation.
Experimental research in these fields, including approaches from behavioral economics and psychology.
Work comparing market institutions with political institutions with regard to how they affect the formation of trust and social capital.

The papers submitted are expected to be work in progress – more than ideas, but still unpublished.

The number of papers that will be accepted is limited to 18. The conference and lodging will be free of charge, and we will reimburse travel expenses. To apply for the conference, send a one-page abstract of your paper, a one-page summary of your research interests and a CV to andreas.bergh@ratio.se and niclas.berggren@ratio.se

The conference is arranged by The Ratio Institute, an independent research institute in Stockholm, within the research project Markets, Morality, Trust and Growth, financed by Stiftelsen Marcus och Amalia Wallenbergs Minnesfond.

Deadline for proposals: February 15, 2006
