Think Energy

In the mid-1990s, Mark Crowdis, the founder and President of Think Energy, provided professional consulting for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencies’ Energy Star Buildings program. While working with numerous corporations and public agencies on energy efficiency efforts, he realized that cleaner air was dependent on these efforts, but also that the benefits of energy efficiency would be muted if the way power was made continued to be based on fossil fuels. As efforts to deregulate the electric utility industry were well underway in states like California, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, Mark realized that there was a huge opportunity, but he also realized that he did not want to sell conventional electricity. If anything, it had to be much cleaner than what was out there, and preferably renewable.Mark approached several energy companies about pursuing sales of renewable energy to commercial and industrial customers. The immediate response by all companies planning on selling renewable energy in deregulated markets was that businesses would never buy. Mark’s experience told him this was not the case, so he conducted a simple survey of companies and universities. What he found was that many indicated that they were willing to buy, and to pay above market rates for cleaner, smarter, renewable energy.

Mark then worked with a renewable energy supplier where he was responsible for developing their commercial and industrial service and sales capabilities. He worked to develop renewable energy programs in deregulated electricity markets for several years before forming Think Energy.

Since its inception in 2000, Think Energy has helped its clients identify strategic renewable energy partners, recruit partners for green house gas mitigation programs, and identify the most cost effective on-site renewable energy sources. All of our clients have utilized our unique market intelligence regarding renewable and cleaner generation sources for commercial and industrial sized entities.
