LUKOIL is one of the biggest international vertically integrated oil and gas companies. It specializes in exploration and development of oil and gas fields, refining, sales of petroleum products, petrochemicals and electric power.
LUKOIL was established in 1991 as a state concern. In 1993 it became an open joint-stock company. Currently LUKOIL is absolutely private. Its shares are traded on the Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange, London Stock Exchange and U.S. over-the-counter market. 20% of shares are owned by ConocoPhillips – one of LUKOIL’s strategic partners.
LUKOIL is ranked second among private international oil and gas companies in terms of proven reserves and sixth in terms of hydrocarbon production. Reserves life is one of the longest in the world and constitutes around 30 years.
LUKOIL operates in 60 regions of Russia and in more than 40 foreign countries.
The main volume (almost 115 mln tones annually) of hydrocarbons is produced in Russia. At the same time
LUKOIL is continuously expanding geography of exploration and production. Appropriate activities are carried out in the Caspian Region, Central Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and South America.
LUKOIL owns and operates 9 refineries (4 in Russia and by one in the Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Italy and the Netherlands) with total annual production capacity constituting 72,6 mln tones. Moreover, LUKOIL has four gas processing plants in Russia.
Petrochemical sector includes 3 plants – 2 in Russia and 1 in the Ukraine – and petrochemical units at the Bulgarian refinery. There are also plans to build a gas chemical complex in the Caspian Region.
Within recent years LUKOIL has increased own crude and product transportation capacities. LUKOIL owns 4 export sea terminals with total output constituting 34 mln tones per year. 2 terminals are located on the Baltic coast, 1 in the Caspian Sea and 1 in the freezing Barents Sea, which makes this terminal totally unique.
LUKOIL’s marketing network includes more than 6,700 petrol stations in 46 regions of Russia, 25 European, Baltic and CIS countries, the U.S. East Cost.
LUKOIL owns significant electric power assets in the South of Russia. Their electric capacity constitutes 3,601 thous. mW, heat capacity – 13,366 thous. Gcal per hour.
Total number of employees of the LUKOIL Group is close to 150,000.
