The European Centre for Ethics is an interfaculty, interuniversity centre devoted to promoting interdisciplinary dialogue on ethically and socially relevant issues.
The Centre was founded in 1989 at K.U.Leuven by then-rector Roger Dillemans and Msgr. Guido Maertens, who assumed the function of chairman.
The Centre began as a cooperative venture among ethicists working at K.U.Leuven in various different departments and centres. From the very beginning, ethicists from other institutions in Belgium and abroad also participated.
