The Centre on Values and Ethics (COVE) sets for itself three goals with respect to values and ethics: research, dissemination of research, and education and training.
COVE will engage in research about values and ethics, especially as they apply to issues relating to policy questions in both the public and private sectors.
COVE will disseminate the results of research on values and ethics to practitioners and policy makers outside academia who face problems about and have experience with implementing and conceptualizing values in institutional settings and to theoreticians who are interested in providing a more general framework for the discussion of values, but need information about the issues that arise in applying theory to practical situations.
COVE will make available to practitioners and policy makers the necessary analytical skills and theoretical framework to understand issues involving values and to evaluate proposals about how these issues should be resolved. In addition, the COVE will provide theoreticians with information about the actual experience and knowledge gained by practitioners and policy makers who have institutional experience with questions about values and their implementation. Practice without theory is blind and theory without practice is empty.
